Morven Boyd | Elected 2009

I’ve been involved with the SRC for several years in a variety of roles and have seen how the SRC’s services benefit thousands of students. My close involvement in the development and expansion of Nightline has itself played a small part in building the SRC’s reputation across campus.
If elected it is important that I build on recent achievements but also ensure the SRC continues to be representative of the views and needs of students.
As VP (L&D) I would:
•Put more resources into saving students money, particularly the cheap photocopying and printing facilities the SRC currently provides.
•Continue the work towards securing Wednesday afternoons as a time for all students to participate in volunteering projects if they wish and ensure proper recognition of these activities.
•Work closely with the VP (Student Support) to continue to increase support given to clubs and societies.
•Work with the QMU, GUU and GUSA to ensure that Freshers’ Week provides a wide variety of options reflecting Glasgow University’s reputation as a multicultural campus.
•Develop opportunities for stronger interaction and dialogue between class representatives and the SRC.
Some of my experience which makes me suited to this position:
•As Nightline coordinator I’ve helped to rebrand the image of the service and to increase its effectiveness.
•As a languages student I’ve spent a lot of time working and studying abroad during my degree, and I believe I’m well-placed to ensure that the SRC’s activities reflect Glasgow as an international campus.
•I was recently closely involved in the development of the highly successful Language Café and I’m committed to developing new, innovative volunteering projects linked to employability and PDP.
•I have actively participated in several SRC campaigns and Freshers’ Weeks.
