Collections at the SRC
So it’s come to that time of year where a lot of our students will be leaving for the summer, moving between flats or graduating from the University.
With that in mind there are a couple of collections at the SRC at the moment for if you’d like to contribute any stuff you’ve got lying around or anything you are going to needlessly bin. As well as this being your good deed for the day; helping somebody else out, whether it’s in Malawi or Glasgow, you are also helping the environment by reducing your waste size.
Firstly, Mary’s Meals, a student ran society here at Glasgow Uni, who help to raise funds for school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities in Malawi, are running a Bagpack Appeal. They are looking for stationary that is in good condition that can be sent to those who don’t have access this sort of equipment.
Specifically they are looking for:
- Bag packs
- Notebooks
- Pencils
- Pens
- Crayons
- Erasers
- Rulers
- Sharpeners
- Pencil Cases
- Towels
- Soap
- Spoons
- Toothpaste
As well as this we have decided to collect all non-pershiable food items that students might otherwise be throwing out so that we can donate it to a local foodbank. Items collected will be donated to GUSH (Glasgow University Service to Homeless) if appropriate. Other items will be donated to Store House, who have been running a foodbank in Glasgow since August 2011 and are now growing in partnership with a number of churches in North West Glasgow.
Items which are acceptable for this collection include:
- Tinned food- anything and everything (savoury and sweet)
- Cereals
- Rice, Pasta and Nooodles
- Soup
- Sauces
- Tea/Coffee and Sugar.
- Any non-perishable items
All items must be unopened, unless they are part of a multipack.
All items can be dropped into the Welcome Point, John McIntyre Building, during Opening Hours.
