Longer term
This category includes options which require more time commitment and will require you to complete a PVG form, provide references and undergo training. Typically you will be expected to give 3 – 6 months regular commitment from the time you become a volunteer.
Please register and apply for any of these opportunities via volunteering.glasgowstudent.net. For more information and to keep up-to-date, please contact us at volunteering@src.gla.ac.uk, and follow us on our Twitter and Facebook channels!
If you are studying in Glasgow for less than 6 months, these options might not be so useful for you, due to the time involved in obtaining a PVG membership.
If you are unsure if these options are suitable, please contact GU Volunteering, by emailing volunteering@src.gla.ac.uk.
Supporting the Elderly
We work with a range of organisations who work with elderly people to support them to live happy and fulfilled lives. Volunteering opportunities include supporting isolated people by sharing food you have prepared via Meal Makers, helping to deliver shopping to people who can’t easily get out themselves through Food Train, and working with people who are affected by dementia and their carers with services provided by Alzheimer Scotland.
Working with people who have disabilities
Volunteers can help people with learning and other disabilities to take part in activities which build their sense of independence and self-confidence.
Various organisations on our database are looking for volunteers to help support a range of social activity groups based in Glasgow and surrounding areas.
