Craft UofG – World Builders Welcome
GUSRC are launching a Minecraft server and challenging you to craft UofG!
Minecraft, the international smash-hit and best-selling video game of all time, is coming to the University of Glasgow!
On Friday 23rd October at 12:00, GUSRC are launching Craft UofG – a Minecraft server which will be free for all University of Glasgow students and staff to sign-up to and join.
The plan is a simple yet challenging one: build the entirety of the University Gilmorehill Campus inside the game!
The server will be set to Creative Mode and will feature a scaled map of the West End where 1 metre in real life = 2 blocks in the game. The server will be moderated by a few SRC Ambassadors each of whom will manage a different project / building.
You can apply to help out with these projects, or suggest your own building that you’d like to work on. Over time we hope to foster a great online UofG community and have some fun whilst working together to build the campus!
At the moment we have 5 projects but we’ll expand these depending on interest and demand.
Craft UofG is powered by our server partner, Apex Hosting.
The Projects:
To apply to a project, sign-up for the server below.
Main Building / Gilbert Scott Building: This will be a tough one, but it’s definitely doable! The iconic Main Building will sit at the middle of the map and can one day become the spawn point of the server.
University Library: Books, books, and more books. Great spot for an enchanting table or two!
Boyd Orr Building: The blocky Boyd Orr is perfect to be built in Minecraft! but will it be clad or unclad? That is the question.
Queen Margaret Union: The brutalist sister to the Boyd Orr, the QMU is going to need A LOT of concrete.
Glasgow University Union: Missing the HIVE? Well let’s build it!
McIntyre Building: Smaller than the other projects but still a challenge – you can even help build the GUSRC server inside the server… woah, META.
Signing Up
Sign-ups for the server will be handled via the form below.
Enter your details, let us know what skills / experience you have, what project you’re interested in, and we’ll add you to the server list!
You will need to own a copy of Minecraft on PC / Mac in order to join the server. You can purchase Minecraft Java Edition for £17.95 here.
We’ll also send you an invite to join the Discord server which is where you’ll be able to jump on a voice call with other players, and discuss plans.
The Rules:
Every good server needs a few ground rules to make sure we’re all having a good time.
First off, all users must abide by the GUSRC Events Code of Conduct.
We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion (or lack thereof).
We will not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form and anyone breaking our Code of Conduct faces removal from the server and possibly further action.
In addition to abiding by our Code of Conduct, the following rules also apply:
- No Griefing (destroying other players’ work without getting their consent to do so)
- No Spamming
- No Advertising
- No Trolling / Flaming
- No Banned Items (TNT, Fire, Mob Eggs)
- No Hacks
The server will usually operate on a 3 strikes system (but may differ depending on the judgement of the moderators). You will be warned twice about breaking the rules, and the third time you break the rules you will be removed from the server.
